New in - Grimms Märchen

This is a collection of all the fairy tales written by the Grimm Brothers, including the original comments by the writers themselves.

I've always been a big fan of fairy tales: I watched the movies as a child (e.g.. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty), read them when I became older and now I also like the TV series Once Upon a Time, which is a fairy tale drama series, created by the makers of Lost and Tron: Legacy. You can watch the trailer here:

One of the most famous writers of fairy tales are the Grimm Brothers. This book is a collection of their original stories, which also means they're written in German. I learned German in high school but didn't speak it over the past 2 years. I've been saying I wanted to pick it up again for some time now, of course especially by Julia's influence :) Isn't this the perfect way to start doing that?!

Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm were German academics, linguistics, cultural researchers, lexicographers and authors who together collected and published folklore. They are among the most well-known storytellers of fairy tales, with stories like Cinderella, The Frog Prince, Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin and Snow White. In 1812, they published their first collection of fairy tales, Children's and Household tales (Kinder- und Hausmärchen). Once they saw how the tales bewitched young readers, the Grimms started fixing things. Tales gradually got softer, sweeter, and primly moral, yet it did not rub away the solid heart of the stories.

Their tales are available in more than 160 translations and have been adapted by filmmakers including Lotte Reiniger and Walt Disney, with films such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Sleeping Beauty.
